I have 2 amd xp systems with different mobos and 4 different sticks of RAM and I have tried swapping EACH component one at a time to try and isolate maybe a dodgy component or something and nothing seems to work. Could this indicate that the problem lies with the game maybe? I have had no end of trouble playing world of warcraft, ive posted on blizzard forums where there are tonnes of people having similar problems with game crashes etc with no specific link to radeon cards it occurs with many different combinations of systems. I uninstalled the catalysts and installed the latest omega drivers with exactly the same problem EXCEPT it happens less frequently (perhaps every 25minutes or so). I would still be in the game and able to play but occasionally I boot to windows with a VPU recovery box stating the graphics accelerator had to be reset as the drivers were not responding. I have a Radeon 9600 and had the latest ATI catalysts installed when, every 5-10 minutes whilst playing world of warcraft, the screen would freeze for 20secs, blackout then reset.
